Steven`s Point Gazette- 10 Jun 1895 ALLEN WHITTAKER DEAD A pioneer resident of Portage County, Allen Whittaker, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. A. Stoddard, in the town of Eau Pleine, near Dancy, at 1:30 last Sunday morning. He was a very aged gentleman but had always enjoyed good health and the end came after a very short and brief illness. The deceased was born in Cattaraugus County, NY Aug. 13, 1810 and was nearly 85 years of age. He came west in 1863, locating in the town of Plover, where he lived until last fall, after the death of a maiden daughter, when he went to live with Mrs. Stoddard. His wife died four years ago. He leaves but two children, Mrs. Stoddard and Mrs. Geo. Allenburg, both in Dancy. Mr. Whittaker was a most estimable old gentleman and his memory will be kept long by those who knew him best. The remains were brought to the town of Plover on Monday, services being held in the Berry school at 2 o`clock that afternoon, Rev. Mr. Olsen officiating. The pallbearers were Jas. Isherwood, Nels Newby, Moses Puarlea, John Gilman, Wm. Newby and Ed Taylor.
